Additional Remarks
- The Yakovlev Yak-50 (Russian: Яковлев Як-50) is a single-seat, all-metal aerobatic aircraft with a low-wing monoplane configuration, retractable main wheels, and an exposed tail wheel. To minimize weight, its control surfaces are fabric-covered. Notably, this aircraft is designed without flaps.
- This particular Yak-50 is equipped with a supercharged Vedeneyev M14P engine that delivers 360 hp, driving an MTV 9-250 propeller via a reduction gearbox. The aircraft’s landing gear, brakes, and engine starter are powered by compressed air, supplied by an engine-driven compressor, with both main and emergency air bottles housed in the forward fuselage between the firewall and fuel tanks.
- Aircraft G-YAKM has been extensively upgraded to improve performance and ease of use. Key modifications include replacing the original ignition system with an automotive version for more reliable starts, swapping out heavy wiring and inverter systems for lightweight modern generator systems, reinforcing the tail wheel, modifying the oil drain for lower cylinders, and installing wing spades, among other enhancements.
- The Yakovlevs’ paint scheme is a tribute to the 1941 Battle of Stalingrad, mimicking the markings used to identify friendly aircraft during the conflict. This livery is a respectful nod to the men and women who took part in that battle.
- Renowned for its superb handling, the Yak-50 boasts a high power-to-weight ratio and a robust, nimble airframe. This model has twice been crowned World Aerobatic Champion and has been used as a military trainer in several countries.
- Worldwide shipping and packaging can be arranged by the experienced Yakovlev team engineers, at a predetermined additional cost.
